I latched onto the idea of using the macro lens in order to capture textures, so I decided to take pictures of every fabric I could find in my house. Once I had them all assembled I thought they had a patchwork quilt feel together, so I chose a fairly basic collage option for arranging the pictures to further perpetuate that initial impression.
I have to say this collage really caught my eye. There is so much texture in every single picture. The picture for me that draws me into the picture has to be the turquoise one that looks like a teepee. Every picture makes me feel like I could touch my screen and I would be touching what's in the picture. Great work this week.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rose on this one. I love texture and keep having more Ah-ha moments with this setting. I love the turquoise one with the crossed fabric. The colors are just so vibrant. I think I might start taking more pictures of fabric because you could use them for nice screen savers or backgrounds on your computer. Good job with this one, it really did make me want to play around with more fabric shots.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic example of the use of texture, with a great amount of variety. Some of the clothe pieces I feel as if I can actually feel. You've got everything in here, from rough to silky smooth and in between, and you've taken the shots in a way that highlight the way they feel. An excellent display of the various textures that inhabit your home.

I love this! I echo everyone's sentiments. It is very visually appealing with lovely textures. I just want to roll around in a big quilt made out of all of it. Very striking. I definitely appreciate the emotional response it created for me. It made me think of Iowa and laundry on the line, the smell of rain in the air, and sun dresses billowing in the breeze. =)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad this collage was able to bring out such a vivid response from you. I love your comment about the sun dresses as well. As it so happens, several of these pictures are of sun dresses from my closet. ;)
DeleteAs a fellow texture enthusiast, I loved your collage. I found myself wanting to touch every piece of fabric and thinking about how I would use this piece or that piece in a project. :) There is a story behind each square and I wanted to hear it.
ReplyDeleteI was drawn to the lower right corner photo and wondered what kind of fabric that was?
This collage makes me think of my grandmother's quilting. The textures you were able to pull out are wonderful. However, I am starting to see the limitations of Picasa. It would have increased that quilt-like appearance if you were able to make all the photos the same size and remove the wight space.
ReplyDeleteI have the same question as MJ, what is the fabric in the lower right? it almost looks like hay :)
There actually were Picasa options where all of the images were the same size and shape. The white border was also optional (in fact, I could have chosen whether or not to have a border, what thickness I wanted the border, and what color the border would be. After a lot of playing around in Picasa this was my preferred presentation, but I appreciate your perspective. As for the image in the lower right, that was a picture of the fringe on one of my couch throw pillows. Incidentally, the lower left image is of the surface of that same pillow.
DeleteI like the textures that show in this collage - it looks like a quilt all on its own. I also like how you cut the collage in half, one half all the same shape and size photos and the other half a mis-match size that also fills the space nicely.

I agree with Karen, It almost looked like a quilt, especially they way you created the border. The different textures were very interesting to look at.
ReplyDeleteNice job!
Vary interesting and your black background brings out all the different colors a lot!! Are they all fabrics? I also like the way you put all the borders in. Great Job!
